Manic Monday #52

I'm running out of ways to start these posts, but welcome to today's installment of me waffling about a subject of my choice on a Monday! Hooray.

I had a look back at my recent posts and have noted that the beauty and make-up posts have been a little on the 'not-happening' side of the scales. I have been putting products to the test and have snapped many a lipstick, mascaras, eyeshadow palette, nail varnish...you name it, I've probably taken a photo of it.

They will be back with vengeance soon, I was planning on a couple a few weeks ago but wanted to give them a thorough testing as I felt I was being disingenuous by not properly giving them a go. I tend to get excited by new products and say that everything is great and a few weeks down the line not using them again.

Anyway, after that incredibly long introduction, on with the post.

Currently, in my place of work I think I am being taken for a ride, yes, I have been there the shortest time, yes, I am therefore on the lowest rate of pay and yes, I generally do most things that are asked of me by my directors.

To cut quite a long story short, several things today grated on me, as I was running around like a blue-bottomed fly getting everything done, tasks were shoved my way when the people doing the shoving are more than capable and have enough spare times themselves to do it.

I was in a "I need to rant to someone" kind of mood...so I did...but don't you just want to sometimes have a rant and not have the advice that follows?

I didn't want the advice today, I just wanted someone to say "Oh, that sucks..." I don't want to always be told "You should do...", "You should say...", "Why don't you just...". I will handle it, the way I will handle it. I did the things that were given to me by my directors and flat out ignored the person who was trying to push his work on to my when he has no place to do so.

Sometimes, rather than giving someone some advice that they may not necessarily want them to hear, just listen to them and be sympathetic.

Just so you know...I got the sympathy on the third try! Woohoo! Third times a charm.

I hope your Monday was a good one. What is your stance on my post? Do you like to receive advice when you have a rant about something? Or are you like me and just sometimes want someone to listen?

Toodles.

Staying Curious

Curiosity and being eager to learn are traits that I have let wane slightly since leaving education, I felt quite content with the things that I knew and I think not being constantly encouraged to ask why and find out the meaning or reasoning behind...well, anything, made me a little complacent.

I have made a conscious effort to be more curious and ask "why?" in the past few months and it is really quite fascinating the little things you learn. Things you may never have to look upon again...but it is there should you ever need it.

My most recent one was 'Why is Witch Hazel called Witch Hazel? Was it because witches used to use it as a healing remedy?'

The answer, which my mum informed me, was actually because the plant that it comes from is called a Wych Hazel plant - wych meaning 'flexible' and the branches on the plant are pliable hence the name.

Curiosity may have killed the cat, but I'm doing OK.

February

February you have always a month of ambivalence for me. I don't really relate you to Winter, you feel too far away for that...but I also feel you're still too far from Spring. Maybe that's why you're the shortest month of the year?

Yes, you bring with you the air of love, Valentines Day. Ben and I usually keep things low-key and just do something little for one another, we don't do the gushy romance, all-out shebang that is always portrayed in films.

However, February, you will bring with you, my first meeting of my best friends baby boy, a few birthdays and the sun is just about showing her face when I leave my house in the mornings.

You won't be a hooplah kinda month, but you never know what you have hidden up your sleeve, February; you have a few days to fling something unexpected my way.

Manic Monday #51

Today was quite manic, but it kept my on my toes. It was nice having a change of pace and currently being all alone in the office lets me just get on with it.

I feel a little frustrated with myself because today while I was doing odds and ends, I thought of a perfectly perfect subject for my weekly MM post, but me as a suffer of sieve-brain syndrome have now forgotten what said subject was. When I thought of it I even thought to myself 'I should write that down...' but forgot as I was multitasking running the whole sales office.

So instead, I will talk about forgetfulness and how greatly irritating and debilitating it can be. My uncle is a prime example of forgetfulness, I work for him so have also, in-part, become his unintentional PA.

Today he rang me at around 11am, we had a conversation and he asked me to send a document to him, which I did as we were talking as he said he needed it for his next appointment. At 4.55pm he rings again and asks me if I can instead print the document that I'd sent and have other things printed for the next morning...as that is what he'd meant to ask me at 11am.
Tip of the iceberg people, how he runs a business is beyond me sometimes.

Now, I am quite an organised person, but also can be very forgetful. When closing down my PC earlier I saw I had several half written emails that I had yet to finish, I flit between so many things that something has to give and today, unfortunately, was emails.

With my general every day life, I regularly forget conversations that I was having if they were interrupted, I forget times for appointments, I forget to pick things up...once I might have, definitely did, forget to pick up my niece from nursery when she was much younger...only 20 minutes late, don't judge me! I forget items that people have asked me to get from shops...you get the gist.

It does amaze me that I do seem to keep myself quite organised in the work place...it just doesn't seem to go hand in hand. Maybe it's because I know I have to keep myself together for the purpose of work. I have...on the very rare occasion...forgotten to process orders at work...
Shh, don't tell anyone.

Skills

It is important to be aware of the skills you have. You may not particularly like the job you have or an element of your job that you wish you didn't have to do, but I always try to think about the transferable skills that I am picking up by doing those jobs.

I find it difficult to consolidate the jobs that I undertake, as I do an awful lot in my role, but as I was updating my CV today, I tried to focus on the different areas and concentrate on the specific skills I have picked up, which then in-turn, will make me a viable candidate for jobs that I may wish to apply for in the future.

Always be eager to learn, always try new things, even if you don't think you'll like it, it may just surprise you.
